Government of Kerala has initiated an ambitious Programme, the Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) with the objective of tackling the issue of growing unemployment in the State.The Programmes aims at equipping selected school/college students with skills in Communication, IT and selected areas of industry and service sectors.
 
At Level 1, ASAP imparts 300 hours of skill training to selected first year students (30 per batch, maximum 2 batches in an institution). Of this, 180 hours will be a foundation module comprising of Communication Skills and IT skills and the remaining 120 hours will be the module related to the skill sector chosen by the student.
Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) Kerala, is a Government Company registered under the Companies Act 2013, that focuses on imparting job-readiness skills to students, in addition to their conventional mainstream school and college education, to enhance their employability levels. ASAP Kerala has created a unique demand-based, industry-led skill training ecosystem in the State through its 121 Skill Development Centres connecting Higher Secondary Schools and Arts & Science Colleges, Advanced Skill Development Centres (ASDCs) in 66 Engineering Colleges and 45 Polytechnics for futuristic skilling, and 16 Community Skill Parks (CSPs) for multi skill training.

ASAP Kerala has 12 NSQF Skill Qualifications registered in the National Qualifications Register (NQR). Preparing youth for a rapidly evolving future through state-of-the-art training programmes in highly demanding areas is the objective of ASAP Kerala. ASAP Kerala has made a positive impact on raising the employability of the State's manpower.

ASAP’s inclusive skilling approach has paved way to innovative initiatives in the skilling arena. ASAP has now spread out its contour to 1477 educational institutions across the state. Since its inception, ASAP has trained 2,51,242 students in more than 100 courses from different sectors.
ASAP cell created in St.Thomas Arts and Science college helps promote and support the ASAP courses for upskilling the students.
